Sigmund Freud broke his psychosexual development down in to 5 stages. The first stage of development is called the oral stage. This is the stage inwhich the child of 0-2 one years old begins to become fixated with the section of their mouth. This is the time when infants begin to turn to sucking their thumb as a sense of comfort. The next stage in Freuds study was the anal stage which lasts from the age of 2 til the time of their 3rd birthday. This is the stage that revolves completly around self control and wheq\ther or not they choose to have it. Sometimes the a child can give themselves too much or too little control. If a child restrains themself too little it can cause them to be explulsive and dissorganized. However if they give themself too much control and holds it in. The child may result in being retentive. The phallic stage is the 3rd in Freud's study. The phallic stage lasts from 3 to 6. This is the stage when children start to be aware of the differences between mom and dad. They ussualy begin to become jealous of the opposite sex parent for stealing mom or dad away from them. For girls, mom stealing dad away from them. and for boys, dad stealing mom away from them. It isnt until the latency stage that their is no sexual drive in the child. This is the time that girls tend to stick to girls and boys tend to stick to boys. The last stage is the genital stage which takes place during puberty into adulthood. In this time people start looking for relationships and tend to turn to the genitals for plussure. Freud had also said that if you repress these urges, they will only come back stronger.
